Major Championship in Fredericton

Katherine Henderson, CEO of Curling Canada, remarked in the announcement: “The anticipation and intensity involved in a single-elimination bracket tournament is well-known in sports like tennis and the NCAA basketball championships, and we foresee our new event bringing the same level of excitement and fervor to curling. Furthermore, it gives us an opportunity to highlight our partnership with PointsBet and, joyfully, to finally present a major championship in Fredericton after several disappointing cancellations during the pandemic.”

Every one of the 32 teams entering the competition will receive $5,000 to assist with travel and lodging expenses, and will earn additional incentives for each victory in the knockout format — $3,000 for winning the first round, $6,000 for a quarterfinal win, $12,000 for reaching the semi-finals, and $24,000 for each of the champion teams in the women’s and men’s categories, meaning they will each take home a total of $50,000.
